I have already posted my review of the iPad this week and I wanted to come back and hit some of the specific features the device offers on their own. One of the most important features of the iPad is its ability to act as an eBook reader. Dedicated eBook readers like the Kindle and the Nook are cool and don’t cost that much less than the iPad. The big difference is the vast amount t of other features that the iPad offers that other eReaders lack.

Barnes & Noble Enters E-Book Wars

What do the killer whale, koala bear and bookstores all have in common? They all appear to be on the verge of extinction.

Book sales have been on the decline and while Harry Potter and Sarah Palin have brought sales up, there just aren’t enough giant releases to captivate audiences into spending $25 or more on a new book.

Creative's Zii MediaBook eBook Reader

After Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Nobles' Nook eBook Reader, there's yet another big company looking to dive in eBook Reader market - Creative. EpiZENter.net stated that at an Annual General Meeting, Creative showed working video of its eBook Reader currently dubbed MediaBook. Taking everyone by surprise, this MediaBook will have Creative's Zii applications processor.

In terms of Holiday Ebook Reader Sales it appears that it is boiling down to a two horse race, the Kindle versus the Nook….and with the Nook the jumps just keep getting higher and higher.

Now the New York Times is reporting that if you order a Nook today you will not see it before January 4th, but as I had predicted Barnes and Noble WILL send you a nice holiday themed order confirmation before Christmas in place of the ordered device. Beyond that, it appears that B&N may be chumming the water for a Cabbage Patch Kid style shopping bloodbath.

Ebooks: Misses and Hits

The biggest miss in the Ebook world this week has to be the Sony Daily Reader, the 7 inch, wireless equipped device that Sony is intending to compete with the Kindle DX (as well as the IREX and the upcoming Que). Remember in my holiday shopping guide, where I listed the Daily as a long shot to make it into stores for Christmas? That shot just got MUCH longer as preordering opens today for the device.
